Hands of a Stranger (1962) | Rotten Tomatoes (1) David Parkinson Radio Times The calculating impassivity with which Stapleton wreaks revenge on those he deems responsible for his plight is effectively disconcerting. Is the 'self' determined by one or a combination of all three? These age-old questions are examined more directly in even B horrors, such as 'Hands of a Stranger,' than in most other entertainments. Blobbo X Everyone angry and yelling like Ben Casey. Electric lamp fall, explode in ball flames. Silly things, but debut movie of child actor Barry Gordon - From A Thousand Clowns. (Better movie.) Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/30/24 Full Review nick s The acting looked a bit stilted at times, but I think this was more to do with weak directing. The cast was pretty good. Some of the scene composition was a bit lazy. And for me the story seemed a bit daft. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/17/23 Full Review dave s When a renowned concert pianist severely damages his hands in a car accident, doctors are forced to perform amputations. With a stroke of what seems like remarkable luck, the surgeon is able to transplant the hands of a recently murdered man onto the pianist in an attempt to salvage his career. Sadly for all concerned, the pianist's new hands belonged to a criminal and soon take over his life, turning him into a vengeful killer. Hands of a Stranger is a story that's been told many times before and comes across as nothing more than an extended episode of The Twilight Zone. Despite some surprisingly decent cinematography, the movie is sabotaged by characters who blather on incessantly, spewing out inane and pretentious dialogue that eventually becomes exhausting. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A concert pianist is in a car crash that destroys his hands. A surgeon performs an experimental procedure to graft the hands of a recently deceased man in their place. The pianist is driven slowly mad by the obsession that his new hands have a mind of their own. This is a dime store unacknowledged remake of "The Hands of Orlac", which had already been remade twice before this one. This version has the typical bad film feature where all the characters seem to inhabit this wild emotional roller coaster that causes them to veer from one extreme to another all in the same scene. That would make this one an amusing watch if it just weren't so damn slow. It's pretty safe to skip this version. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member The dialogue is often ludicrous and sounding more theatrical than for a movie, as Doctor Gil tells his star patient "Don't let fear drive you into a pit of superstition."ÂIt results in a lurid B film that has a few good moments you can count on one hand. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting, not really well executed, nor is it dramatic or suspenseful enough. The plot is decent enough, and the characters aren't too stale, but the story just doesn't pick up enough. There are nice moments that aren't looked upon long enough.
