Clovis P. Mitchell, age 88, a life long resident of Waxahachie and former owner of Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home, passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Clovis P. Mitchell, age 88, a life long resident of Waxahachie and former owner of Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his ranch in the Hill Country on Sunday, January 23, 2005. He was born September 25, 1916 in Waxahachie to Dr. P. H. and Lake (Mullican) Mitchell. Clovis was the oldest living continuous member of the College Street Church of Christ. He graduated from Waxahachie High School and attended Trinity University. He graduated from Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1937, and then did post graduate work in restorative art and was awarded a life scholarship from Landig College of Mortuary Science in Houston. He married Omajeanne Lokey in Waxahachie on June 25, 1941. For several years Clovis was the only mortician in the area providing professional work for the communities of Waxahachie, Italy, Midlothian, Milford, Maypearl, Bardwell, Avalon, Palmer and Red Oak. In 1942 Clovis and Patrick W. Boze bought what is today Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home, where they shared the same office with only one desk for over 50 years. Along with Pat, Clovis worked with his trusted business associate, Buddy Vincent for 60 years. Clovis and his son were business partners at the funeral home and in ranching for over 35years. Clovis personally directed over 10,000 funeral services for Ellis County families. He was a good business man and rancher. Clovis was a member of the Lions Club and the Waxahachie Masonic Lodge #90. Heaven gained a great man when the angels came to greet Joe McKibbin as he completed his eight year battle with ALS on Monday, October 6, 2014 with his loving and supportive family by his side. Joe graduated from Liberal High School where he lettered in football and wrestling. He was honored to receive the outstanding senior athlete award. Joe was selected to play in the 1987 Shrine Bowl in Kansas where he was elected as Team Captain. He also played football for the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. Joe graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Sciences, and then obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from LeTourneau University. He started in the funeral business in 1990, beginning work for Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. He continued in the funeral industry and on December 27, 2001 he achieved his life-long dream of owning his own funeral home. Joe was passionate about his work even after his ALS diagnosis. Throughout his illness Joe continued to inspire and encourage everyone around him with his positive attitude, sense of humor and his love for life and family. Joe was an amazing man and will be missed greatly by everyone whose life he touched. Noel L.” N.L.” Dickinson, age 82, of Dallas, passed away early Monday morning, March 19, 2018 in Dallas. He was born October 12, 1935 in Shelbyville, Texas to Willie and Casselle (Grubbs) Dickinson. N.L. was an alumni of Forest Ave. High School and graduated from East Texas State University with a Bachelors of Science. He got his start in the grocery business with Abe Meyer and later owned his own stores in the Fair Park area of Dallas until he moved to Red Oak where he opened stores, Tote A Way, in Ovilla, Red Oak and Rockett. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner, he was a member of the Ellis County Tax Appraisal Board and a past board president of the Red Oak ISD. N.L. was funny and caring and a talker who never met a stranger. He was quite a character. He loved flowers and was able to turn any object into a pot of flowers. He enjoyed going to the lake, fishing and politics. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jane Dickinson; two children, Del Dickinson and Donna Anthony and husband Jeff; six grandchildren, Candice Dickinson, Kindra Garcia and husband Joe, Kellyn Garcia and husband Gilbert, Kimberly Morin and husband Sid, Erin Pope and husband Andrew and Jake Anthony; nine great grandchildren, Jordan, Brennah, Noah, Lillian, Gabriel, Kaleb, Madalynn, Gracelyn and Mickael.
